MISTAKES COST TEAM

The Barnsley manager Keith Hill has said that individual mistakes from the team in a number of areas of the pitch as a result for them being closer to the relegation zone. Barnsley recently were at the end of another defeat after the 2-1 score against Cardiff. However, both the goal scored by Cardiff came as a result of a corner kick routine that was not defender properly by Barnsley. They left the goal scorers Aron Gunnarsson and Ben Nugent unmarked for both the goals. This has infuriated the manager Keith Hill, who has been under pressure for quite a while.

Keith Hill has overseen a terrible form at Barnsley, which has seen the club slip to the 20th position in the table after having just two victories in the last three months. They are also just two points above the relegation zone and will slip into this trap if results do not improve. However, it did not show any signs of improving in the recent match against promotion chasing Cardiff, who managed a 2-1 victory. Hill has praised the performance of the goalkeeper Luke Steele by saying that he was excellent, but the team has let him down because of the bad defending. Even though the difference between the two teams was marginal, it will not be reflected on the table according to Hill.

“Everything is marginal, they are top of the league and we are near the bottom. We have let (goalkeeper) Luke Steele down. He has made two matchwinning saves and we conceded from both corners and the players are responsible for the individual mistakes they have made. The individual errors cost you and that is the difference between the cream and the elite and us at this moment in time,” said Hill after the Cardiff match.

HILL RUES DEFEAT

The Barnsley manager Keith Hill said after the 4-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest that it was due to the clear disparity when it comes to the resources for both managers. Nottingham Forest were able to field the likes of the former England international Jermaine Jenas, who is currently on a loan deal. However, Keith Hill has been struggling with injury problems to a number of players over the last few weeks. In this situation, he has said that there is little he could have done in order to prevent the team from losing 4-1 against Nottingham Forest. Nottingham Forest were coming into the match unbeaten in the month so far.

Keith Hill has also suggested that the players made some bad decisions that led to goals. It will always be difficult to control the decisions taken by players during the match. Some of the high profile names on the Nottingham Forest team sheet included Billy Sharp, Simon Cox, and Jermaine Jenas. Meanwhile, the Nottingham Forest manager Sean O’Driscoll said that the attitude shown by the 29-year-old Jermaine Jenas since arriving on loan from Tottenham has been fantastic. He is currently on a second spell with the club after being given the chance to recover from the Achilles injury.

“We’re in the same position as we were yesterday – trying to punch above our weight. Take the emotion out of it, you can’t give a good team bad goals, and that’s what we’ve done today. The players are responsible for the decisions they make on the pitch and they made bad decisions today and it’s cost us the game. We got a one-goal advantage and then we imploded. You look at the likes of (Billy) Sharp, (Simon) Cox, (Jermaine) Jenas – I mean come on!” said Keith Hill after the match.

BARNSLEY SIGN STONES

Barnsley have managed to secure the future of the highly rated defender John Stones on a new contract. The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the highly rated players from the club in recent seasons. He was recently included in the squad for the England under 19 team that will play against Germany in a friendly match in the next couple of weeks. The Barnsley manager Keith Hill gave a debut for the player in the recent 4-3 win over Rochdale. The 18-year-old is expected to go on to bigger and better things in the next few seasons.

Hence, it was extremely important for the club to secure the future of the player, as it would only increase the transfer value. The manager Keith Hill has said that he is extremely delighted at the decision taken by the player to extend his stay at the club. After struggling with relegation throughout the last season, Barnsley will be hoping for a slightly better season this time around. They have made a decent start to the 2012-13 Championship season. Even though they have lost in the opening match of the season, they have recovered to win the second match against Middlesbrough.

“We’re in contact with Doncaster but it’ll come down to the player because I believe there are other clubs interested in him. He’s an experienced, gifted player and he’s a very creative threat,” said the manager Keith Hill after announcing the news that the player has signed a new three-year contract with the club. Barnsley will be facing Brighton and Hove Albion during the weekend. This match will be followed by a tough couple of fixtures against the likes of Swansea city, Blackburn Rovers, and Blackpool in the League cup and also in the Championship. The presence of John Stones for the next three years has now been confirmed.
